Jenna & Jason - Martha Clara Vineyards Wedding

One can say the most wonderful things about the wedding day of a couple, but there is nothing like hearing from the Bride herself. This week we decided to post Jenna's description of her wedding day with her beautiful pictures provided by Janelle Brooke Photography. Enjoy!

From Jenna:

"Jason and I both lived in the Georgetown area of DC for at least three years before we officially met. In fact, I was waitressing part-time at a local restaurant and bar that was a neighborhood favorite of Jason's and we likely bumped into each other countless times without knowing we were stumbling into our future husband/wife. In 2005, I became a manager at a landmark restaurant in DC, The Old Ebbitt Grill, where Jason was bartending. As his boss, I remember thinking he was the nicest guy on staff, and I wasn't just being naive. Jason was always eager to help me, always did the right thing for the restaurant, and was a real favorite among the staff and management. He admits now that he was genuinely a good guy, but that he also had a little crush on me. Anyway, one night we were talking across this big beautiful bar in the restaurant and that was it: we both realized we'd met our other half. Over the course of four years we bought a house in DC, got an amazing Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Jonah, and built our relationship together. I had been working hard to get into a top MBA program while working full-time and was exalted to find out, in early 2010, that I was accepted to Cornell's Business School. Jason was not only supportive of this pursuit, but excited to move together and start a new chapter of our lives. A few weeks later, in Baltimore, MD, after a delicious Italian dinner and right before a romantic David Gray concert, Jason plucked a beautiful ring from his pocket and asked me to marry him. Though I knew this would be coming at some point, nothing could prepare me for that moment. It was truly going to be a new chapter.

Jason and I love nothing more than to celebrate with good food and wine. We love to cook and entertain and will often spend a day off cooking an elaborate feast - either for the two of us , a special visit from our families, or for a group of friends. We knew that we wanted our wedding to have the same feel: a warm setting, delicious food, and great music. The perfect spot for us was the North Fork, specifically, Martha Clara Vineyard. The location had been an important one to us for a few years. As soon as Jason and I got our dog, Jonah, we could no longer fly easily to get to Boston to see Jason's family. So we would spend our vacation time driving up to Long Island and visiting with my family, The Velellas, and then driving out east through the North Fork where we'd catch the ferry up to New England. En route we often would stop for a bite to eat, or to pick up wine at Martha Clara for my parents, who are wine club members there. We knew that a June wedding on the vineyard at Martha Clara would offer us the feel we were seeking - warm, rustic, unpretentious, but elegant - and the summer bounty of North Fork farmers would keep the food special and local.

Some brides and grooms will say that everything happened so fast, they didn't get to talk to every guest, they didn't get to eat their dinners, and they offer the advice to brides- and grooms- to-be to slow down and try to savor the fleeting moments of their big day. Jason and I look back on June 18th, 2011 without a single regret. We enjoyed the warm sun, the beautiful setting, incredible food, wine, cake, and dancing with our guests and remember every moment of the greatest day of our lives."

Arline & Joe - Brecknock Hall Wedding

If you ever questioned whether a Do It Yourself wedding could be as beautiful as one crafted by wedding pros, this one will remove all your doubts. Long before Arline & Joe's wedding day their floral arrangements were growing in Arline's aunt's backyard. Arline & her mom shopped for years gathering different plates & cups to fashion the dinner table. Every detail from the signs to the wedding cake was created by the couple and their family. Brecknock Hall provided the perfect venue & Sherry Pickerell the perfect images of the day.

Kaitlin & Jason - Martha Clara Vineyards Wedding

Kaitlin & Jason had a fantastic wedding at Martha Clara Vineyards this summer. Kaitlyn's hairpiece & her bridesmaids' red peep-toe heels added a hint of the couple's lively personalities to this vibrant vineyard wedding. Tim Ryan Smith was behind the camera to capture it all from the newly weds' first seconds as husband & wife, to their wonderful details at the reception.

Michele & Vinny

Many of our East End couples live & work in the city. A city engagement session is not only convenient, but is also a great way to contrast your North Fork wedding. Stephen at W Studios New York sent us these beautiful engagement photos of Michele & Vinny who had downtown Manhattan as a backdrop for their rooftop terrace. They celebrated with a bottle of Champaign and later found a perch in Battery Park with a gorgeous city view. We can't wait for their wedding at Raphael Vineyard next fall!
